A Sub Zero Amsterdam

20160119_113750
It was great to get some funding to travel to Holland for a drug policy conference in Heemskerk outside Amsterdam in early January. The Global Forum for Producers Of Prohibited Plants (GFPPP) discussed the plight of the world’s subsistence cannabis opium and coca farmers ahead of the big UNGASS conference at the United Nations in April. With an average daily temperature of 4 degrees, the 13th century castle we were holed up in was pumping the 20th century central heating throughout our stay thankfully.
You can read all about the Heemskerk Declaration on the Fields Of Green For ALL website:

The 2014 Jazzfarm Spring Party

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Thanks go to all of you for supporting the 2014 Jazzfarm Spring Party. After the initial thunderstorm that chased us all undercover, we were blessed with a calm moonlit night.
We hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

The Sacred Geometry of Aloes

Posted by: | Comments (0)

As of August 2013, the Jazzfarm had not suffered any real frost damage all winter. The short term positive effects of Global Warming perhaps. One consequence of the mild winter has been our aloes all flowered and weren’t decimated one night by sub zero temperatures. Some plants we have never seen in full cycle before.
The Jazzfarm bees have been feasting on them for weeks. Aloe flavoured honey will be a thing to look forward to in spring.
The sacred geometry of Aloes from budding to flowering to fruiting has been a joy to watch, and well worth capturing on ‘film’.

May Sweat Lodge

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Myrtle and I took a break from The Jazzfarm and headed off to the Karoo for a secluded break from it all. It seemed like a long time since we’d managed to get away.
We’re back and we’ve hit the ground running with work, projects and commitments.
Looking through the diary we noticed a spare weekend coming up where The Jazzfarm isn’t booked up.

It’s short notice ,we know, but how about a Jazzfarm Sweat Lodge on Saturday 26 th May. There are a few of you who’ve been asking when the next Lodge was going to be.
Here you are then, we hope it’s not too short a notice for you all.

Jules will be pouring this Lodge. Let’s enter the Lodge at sunset, say 6pm.  It is 5 weeks since there was a Sweat Lodge  ceremony at The Jazzfarm. Far too long. So come along for a ride down the rabbit hole of heat, cramped, dark, chanting, shouting, rebirth, rejuvination AND some really tasty soup and fresh breads for supper…..

Saturday 26th May 5ish for 6pm……Rainbow Sweat Lodge…be there – or be somewhere else. R180 per person.

Pay a visit to our dedicated Sweat Lodge page within the Jazzfarm site. All your questions should be answered there for you about what to bring and what to expect.

See you there!

Lizard Weather

Posted by: | Comments (0)

And still it rains on the Highveld. a blessing for the dry winter months ahead…..or not?
I had a conversation with a man the other day who was very keen on the weather and meteorology…He said that Southern Africa is about to experience it’s wettest winter in living memory….something to do with El Nino’s sister El Nina.
That would be a strange sort of havoc for Johannesburg. Imagine it being  like a Cape Town wet winter in Jozy..Euk!……and below freezing temperatures….
May as well go to Aberdeen.

The Reservoir Cottage

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Many of you will remember the old water reservoir next to the Jazzfarm windmill.
More than 10 years ago, I knocked a hole in it and put a door frame, then 9 years ago I put a window frame.
We’ll I finally got off my arse and put a door in the frame and glass in the windows.
We’ve now got more beds for psychonauts and assorted other guests. It’s dorm style and stylin’!
We are also test driving a fresh off the boat from Bejing low pressure solar water system. Cheap, no frills and it’s seems to be really effective. Got to run round in the shower to get wet with the old plaas pressure,  but hey!

The main motivation was to get more beds for our upcoming Ayahuasca and San Pedro weekend.
When they come down to land, some lucky travellers will have the opportunity to test drive our new accomodation AND have a good run round the solar shower!
Can’t say better than that now can we?

The Vergenoeg Hike

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Just to prove what we’ve been saying all along with the San Pedro story….it’s all very well taking the stuff but you have to DO something with it. There is no point just blobbing out and thinking you are in the zone. That’s why Rob got it together to call the crew and organise a day walk 50k’s north of Jo’burg in the Magaliesburg mountains.
It’s been a particularly wet summer in these parts and we didn’t escape the rain on the day either. Loaded with our favourite plant in the whole world we wound our way up a kloof, though the proteas and indigenous riverine trees to the top of the world’s oldest mountains….
The sun came out and made the whole experince worth it.
Patchamamma deluxe.
The smells, sounds and textures of our environment surrounded us for hours on the top of the ridge.
Brits, Pretoria, Krugersdorp, Johannesburg and Sandton were laid out in front of us.
It was super cool to hike with such mindful folk, share lunches, talk a lot of rubbish and really touch and feel our surroundings.
Thats
what San Pedro is for…..just do it!

Dune Time

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Namib Nakluft
After all the madness of the long haul of the big brother house, Myrtle and I headed off to Namibia for an action packed week of getting away from it all. We got very very close to the middle of nowhere in this remarkable country. The world’s highest dunes in the world’s oldest desert. Awesome and humbling all at the same time and HUGE distances to drive – but that’s the fun of it. Had a very decadent birthday feast with an ocean view in Swakopmund and then it was time to come home to prepare The Jazzfarm for an impending Ayahuasca weekend. Whistle stop trip but talk about clearing the cobwebs……It surely is the country with the biggest views in the galaxy..
